Biography

Jeremy Annear was born in Exeter in 1949, and trained at the Exeter School of Art. He lives and works in Cornwall, and his controlled abstract paintings and drawings demonstrate his early exposure to the paintings of the School of St Ives artists and also the influence of 20th century European Artists such as Braque, Miro, Picasso and Gris.

He is considered to belong to the esteemed lineage of Cornish Modernists which began in the 1930’s with Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth, followed by Peter Lanyon, Terry Frost and Patrick Heron. As a holidaying teenager in the 1950’s in St. Ives he found himself being confronted by the almost mystical atmosphere of Abstraction on the streets of St. Ives.

He was an active member a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists and the Penwith Society of Artists during the 1990’s and exhibits regularly in London, St Ives, and at art galleries in Berlin, Bremen and Leipzig.
